Hiked our way to.....GLORY :-)

Well, it does feel glorious when you complete your first 'planned' hike :)
We hiked a few times on our trips visiting places - the hardest and most memorable being the hike to Crater Lake (which was equated to a 75 storey building climb) and the midnight hike around retreat in Arlington. But it was our first official hike the sole purpose of which was - well, the hike :)
I 'modestly' take complete credit of coming up with the idea and finding this hike, but kudos to my trusted gang of Sandip, Keshav and Rishi who joined in happily.

We enthusiastically started for the hike at around 7.20pm, but soon realized that we are about half an hour late to start since we had to be back by 9.30pm. Note to self - next time, we need to start by 6.30pm! We got skeptical about getting back before the park closing time of 9.30pm and at every turn, we almost gave up. Rishi was the only one pushing through and was very determined to complete the hike. He was way ahead of us leading the way. 'Way to Go', my beta :-).  It was fun to ask every hiker we met on our way up about the approximate distance left for us to reach the summit. Everyone of them gave a different answer (perception is an evil thing ;-)) but each of them encouraged us to go along with a promise that the view from the summit is very worth the struggle of the climb.

We reached the top in an hours time and were all speechless! Apart from the fact that we could barely breathe, we were also enamored with the spectacular view. At the summit we 'fist pounded', took pictures, felt very good about ourselves but had no time to soak in the view. We now needed to dash our way down to be able to take our car out before the park gates closed. Second note to self - next time,  park the car outside.

The hike down was a daunting experience as the incline was very steep. Me and Keshav slipped a few times while Rishi and Sandip boasted of their awesome shoes. Third note to self - get hiking shoes!! Duh!

We reached just as the ranger was about to close the gates. We were so happy we pushed ourselves to reach the top! Particularly, given the statistics, I think we are justified to be proud.
