Rishi started his 1st grade school year at Lockwood Elementary on 4th Sept, 2007. I can just say that, I survived!! Didn't sleep very well the previous night. Followed his school bus to school and waited till he went in. It was such a bitter sweet moment. I waited in the area beyond where the parents are not allowed to go and saw him go in confidently. Not once did he turn back. Felt a pang thinking how my little boy has grown up.
Actually, I was so nervous about this new school. Can't even put words to my anxieties. Never can explain what I was nervous about. Rishi was so attached to his previous school and his friends and teachers there. His alopecia makes it harder. I keep thinking about the 'what if's '. What if he can't find his room? What if he doesn't like his teacher? What if he is not able to make new friends? Through all this, Rishi kept telling me not to worry and that he will be OK.
After a week I can say that the fears were unfounded. he made really good friends in Jack and Jacob, told us that his teacher - Miss Peggy Fargo - is the 'almost best teacher in the whole wide world' and enjoys riding the bus with Britney and Cassandra.
So far so good. Just praying he does as well here as he did in Bellevue.
